Live India : My Country My Life change LK Advani’s image

Many would say BJP’s prime ministerial candidate LK Advani is a fascinating politician — someone who was the first to challenge the Nehruvian consensus on socialism and secularism from the Right, someone who made the BJP an electable force.

But will his memoirs My Country, My Life, change his hardline image?

Over 900 pages long, Advani’s book released at a high-profile function on Wednesday evening in Delhi is already making headlines.

Seen by most as a fanatic, saffron-swearing, hardliner, Advani seems to be making an effort to touch a chord with the readers – as if to prove he’s not all that he is made out to be.

On a day that saw the realisation of his literary dreams and the release of his book My Country My Life, senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani’s only regret was the absence of “Atalji” on stage.

Published by Rupa and Co. and released here on Wednesday by the former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the rather thick volume traces the journey of political development in post-Independence India as observed by a young Mr. Advani. It takes the readers on a 60-year-long passage through an impeccable, albeit occasionally controversial political career.
